NCLEX guide · fee change on 1 Feb 2027
How much does the NCLEX cost in Canada?
The NCLEX-RN costs $360 CAD plus tax for Canadian licensure. NCSBN is raising it to $570 CAD for anyone who registers on or after 1 February 2027. The date you register with Pearson decides the fee, not the date you write, and every retake needs a new registration.
What does the NCLEX cost in Canada?
These are the NCLEX cost figures NCSBN publishes for candidates seeking a Canadian licence. The fee depends on where you want to be licensed, not where you live. What you pay for is the Next Generation NCLEX, the version of the exam in use since April 2023.
| Fee | Amount (CAD) |
|---|---|
| NCLEX-RN registration, before 1 Feb 2027 | $360, plus local tax |
| NCLEX-RN registration, on or after 1 Feb 2027 | $570 |
| Writing at a test centre outside Canada | $150 extra, plus VAT where it applies |
| Changing your regulator after registering | $50 |
| Changing your exam language (English or French) | $50 |
| REx-PN registration, for practical nurses | $350, plus local tax |
Why is the NCLEX fee going up in 2027?
NCSBN announced the change on 21 August 2026 and says it is the first adjustment to the registration fee since 2000. The new fee is $570 in Canada and $350 in the United States and Australia. No other NCLEX fee changes, and the REx-PN fee stays the same.
Which fee will I pay?
It depends only on the day you register with Pearson Professional Assessments.
- Register before 1 February 2027 and you pay the current fee, even if you write the exam after that date.
- Register on or after 1 February 2027 and you pay $570.
- The same rule applies to retakes, because every attempt is a new registration.
You can only register once CNO tells you that you are eligible. If you are close, it is worth checking your file so you do not miss the earlier fee.
Can I get an NCLEX fee refunded?
No. NCSBN does not refund registration fees for any reason, including duplicate registrations, late cancellations and missed appointments. A registration also stays open for only 365 days while you wait for your regulator to make you eligible. If eligibility does not come in that time, you lose the registration and the fee.
What does the whole licensing process cost?
The exam is only one fee. In Ontario you also pay for a credential assessment, the CNO application ($433 plus HST in 2026), the jurisprudence exam, a Transition to Practice course and your initial registration. See the full cost table.
How much does it cost to retake the NCLEX?
The full registration fee again, each time. You can retake the NCLEX-RN once every 45 days, up to 8 times a year, so failing twice can add up fast. Passing the first time is the cheapest route. Read our guide to passing after a failed attempt.

What else do nurses ask?
Does the 2027 NCLEX fee apply if my exam is after February?
Only if you register on or after 1 February 2027. NCSBN bases the fee on the registration date, not the exam date.
Do I pay the NCLEX fee in Canadian dollars?
Yes. For Canadian licensure the NCLEX fee is $360 CAD, plus local taxes, until it rises to $570 for registrations from 1 February 2027.
